1st day Leave for Delphi via Thebes, Levadia and the picturesque village of Arachova, on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. Arrive at Deplhi known in ancient times as the navel of the world. Pass by Castalia Spring, visit at the archaeological site and view the monument of the Argive Kings, the treasury of the Athenians, the Athenian Stoa, the Polygonal Wall, the monument of Platea and the Temple of Apollo famous for its oracle. After the visit passing through picturesque villages and towns of Central Greece, such as Trikala, we will arrive in Kalambaka, a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks, and crowded by the METEORA Monasteries. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
2nd day After breakfast, we depart in the morning for a tour of the cliff-top monasteries to visit the BYZANTINE MONASTERIES built on top of rock towers and providing fantastic views over the plain. Meteora is included on the UNESCO’s world heritage monument list. The monasteries are perched on top of towers of sandstone, which for centuries provided totally inaccessible retreats for the monks. Meteora is considered one of the most beautiful areas of mainland Greece, and its monasteries are one of the country’s most unique attractions. By return, you may visit optional a factory of Byzantine style icons. Return to Athens passing by the heroic monument of Leonidas king of Sparta in THERMOPYLAE (short stop for photos). The tour returns to Athens in the late afternoon.
